Krzysztof Turlewicz

Born in 1983 in Lublin.

The artist operates in the domain of forms characterized by a clearly linear and spatial structure, the two being a connecting element of his intriguing compositions. Turlewicz is an acute observer of his immediate reality, extracting from it shapes and bends in the perspective approach – stairs, windows, power lines become a starting point for presenting a line which runs towards the inside of the picture, abstract systems of forms shaping up spaces on the borderline of reality.

Turlewicz uses a subdued, monochromatic colour scheme, combing the airbrush and traditional brush, lending his painting a graphic sharpness and precision. The technique offers a clear, geometric construction of the canvases, giving them a cool, analytical character. The picture space is organized by his aptly chosen brightness and skilful use of light. The cycle of paintings entitled “Electrification” refers to the process of developing power grids and shows fragments of lines, cables and poles which are slowly becoming obsolete, replaced by underground installations. With archaeological precision, Turlewicz documents the passing elements of our civilization. The (photo)graphically represented cable grids show the linear character of the environment, emerging from the saturated background with a nostalgic note. The “Freeze Frame” cycle of paintings refers to the linear structure of wire mesh in an all-over composition. The simplified, clear form results in the effect of a sublime painting representation based on deliberate, symmetrical divisions. It has only features of reality, its rhythmicality generating an op-art illusion grants it a metaphysical character, attempting to express infinity in a symbolic way.
