Joachim Sługocki

Joachim Sługocki graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Toruń in 2012. He mainly deals in broadly understood painting, which he considers his most important medium. He is also interested in site-specific installation and video recording. An essential part of his work is looking for contemplative elements and visual-spatial connections.

He is a painter and an artist creating installations in which being the painter is quite apparent. The multitude of activities influencing each other is crucial in all his artistic languages, including painting. Without painting, Joachim Sługocki would probably not even exist as an artist.

Sługocki’s painting is based on strictly optical actions. His compositions are a play with the viewer’s capabilities of perception, his painting exists thanks to light, its strength and power of influence. It embarrasses the viewer, introducing him to the unreality of contemplating the act of inward penetration. It is all-embracing, leaving no free space of escape from a sudden appropriation of consciousness. The acrylic-painted pictures form hypnotizing spaces, behind which lurks an open universe of orderliness. The order is contagiously beautiful, but also powerful in its effect. The play with form, colour, geometrical order and optical depth leads us to the gate behind which we find repose and distraction inside the unknown. The silence is blissful, the compositions offer freedom of movement in everlasting return.

Perhaps this way of painting the world is a chance to fulfil the dream of stopping time and lasting in contemplation. Painting becomes powerful and the power is called Joachim Sługocki.
