Magdalena Leśniak
Born in 1988 in Kielce.
Magdalena Leśniak’s project presented here is composed of a dozen or so pictures sized between 10 x 15 and 39 x 45 centimetres. They are shown in the form of a mosaic-puzzle with the shape adjusted to the exhibition space. The audience is expected to face an unlimited, almost overwhelming collection of objects-paintings. Each element of the mosaic is a picture and a thing at the same time, an everyday object accompanying the author. They exist in a peculiar emotional interrelation – apart from their functionality, the artist also enjoys their appearance, shine and special configuration of details they are made of. What is important for me, an enthusiast of this painting, is the curious union of the order of the painting surface with the order of the object’s appearance. The specific glaze, the stylistic frugality. The exceptional composition harmony of two seemingly contradictory order makes the paintings outstanding. Despite resulting from a reduction of form, they accumulate the intensity of sensual perception. These pictures of objects are not transparent in form, instead focussing the viewer’s intentions on the represented object. A peculiar identity interdependence appears between the representation of the object and the material picture itself. The picture of the object becomes the object. To some extent it also results from the arrangement and relationships among the objects-paintings. Magdalena Leśniak received her diploma at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź just half a year ago. Her latest work is in a way in statu nascendi, it keeps developing and attracting my attention. I wholeheartedly recommend the results of her artistic work.
