Irmina Staś

Born in 1986.

On the basis of her own experience, Irmina Staś creates paintings which concentrate on fundamental existential problems. What is of crucial importance in her attempts is the authenticity governing her choice of expressive means. In principle, they must be as relevant to her inspiration as possible. Irmina Staś is inspired by boundary situations, in which – as Karl Jaspers wrote – “man defines the meaning of existence”. The author builds a well-considered, consistent message supported by deep reflection whose axis is the body-mind relationship. The artist consciously resists the temptation to design paintings or carry out scattered formal concepts. She concentrates on observing nature and tries to follow the actual sequence of her own thoughts. Her health condition makes her ponder the secret of life, harmony and balance of natural processes, physical fitness and injury, conflict and interplay of elements constituting an organism. In the titles of her works, she has used the terms infection and transplantation, attempting to find visual means to represent them. Irmina Staś has mastered the painting technique to a degree which allows her to freely create compositions reflecting her inspirations. She is careful in balancing the abstract and the representative, avoiding exaggeration and literalness. Despite the allusions to the state of imbalance, her works display an impression of cheerful lightness. She uses the colour confidently, her shapes form ethereal, unconstrained spatial systems. Irmina Staś uses purposeful brushstrokes, combining elements of accepted coincidence with controlled action.
