Cezary Poniatowski 

Born in 1987 in Olsztyn.

Cezary Poniatowski’s painting is a graphic abbreviation and reduction of artistic means of expression. The colours are limited to black and white with shades of grey. They are acrylic canvases painted “offhandedly”. The viewer is left uncertain as to their meaning. The forms – spots and lines – are suspended at the brink of representation, figurativeness, when they begin to look familiar and wink at us knowingly. Yet for most part they remain elusive and unidentified. They crawl in all directions and elbow their way on the canvas. On other occasions, they are confined to a simple sign. They are calligraphic, graphic, sometimes “sculptural”. They resemble random spots on a wall or mural. They are pictures by a graphic design graduate who believed in painting and decided to choose it as his sole way of artistic expression, a conscious and mature decision.
