Honorata Martin paints sweet-frightening stories, childish landscapes without horizons and – quite literally – backgrounds for her own dreams. She tells stories of objects and memories which inhabit and compose them. She develops her pictures in time, transferring her painted characters to film. Her accompanying video works are often self-narrative, not only showing the hidden lives of the portrayed figures and objects, but also the active process of painting – or rather becoming – the pictures. Here, painting appears to be a trace, an immovable record of events, interactions of blotches and shapes. The films are also self-contained stories about a slightly unsettled world, arranged by changing rhythms and moods. She smoothly shifts the media, creating a coherent reality in which the means allow to complement and develop the meanings.
